POLICE HUNT ARMED MAN OVER WEEKEND BURGLARY

Central West District police are investigating an armed robbery and assault that took place early Saturday morning at an Orange hotel.

A male cleaner at the Victoria Hotel in Orange was bailed up by an intruder, reportedly armed with a knife and gun. He was tied up while the bandit ransacked the premises.

Police believe the man illegally entered soon after 5am, and left through the rear of the building with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The staff member was treated by paramedics at the scene, but declined offer of transport to hospital.

A strike force of officers from Parkes and Orange has been established, reviewing CCTV footage and conducting forensic enquiries.

“It will progress in the coming days as a result of scientific examinations at the crime scene,” offered acting Inspector Greg Payne.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Orange Police (02) 6363 6399.
