AVC EXPANSION TAKES IN THE BOUNDARY

Australian Venue Co forges ahead with investment in the Sunshine State, now acquiring Brisbane landmark The Boundary.

Established in 1864, in Brisbane’s West End, the well-known pub was given a new lease on life in 2018 through a major renovation by KP Architects.

AVC has been operating in Queensland since 2017, and in 2019 acquired Spirit Hotels’ 88 venues across the state. The state stable currently numbers more than 90, including iconic venues such as The Regatta and The Wickham.

The group continues to invest heavily in its Queensland venues, rolling out a series of multi-million dollar renovations most recently including the Salisbury Hotel and Boomerang Hotel, in April, and Dunwoody’s in May, with several more reported to be currently underway.

Australian Venue Co CEO Paul Waterson says the acquisitions reflect the group’s confidence in the state’s hospitality outlook.

“We’re very at home in Queensland. We have a large operations and corporate team based in Brisbane and will continue to invest in the State.

“The Boundary is one of the best-known pubs in Brisbane, so we’re delighted to add it to a stable alongside our other iconic venues in the city. Brisbane’s future is bright.”

Colin Macleod’s Oz Pub Group became the pub’s third ever freehold owner when it purchased The Boundary in late 2017. Since then the group has also divested the Aspley Hotel and Shafston Hotel, and see transfer of The Boundary operation to AVC as a suitable next step in the story.

“Although we as publicans run the hotel over the years, we are really just custodians trying to offer the best we can. The hotel has got its own character and years of history making it unique.

“As the outgoing hotelier I feel very confident AVC will continue to deliver great hospitality, and lastly on behalf of the Macleod family I would like to thank the amazing staff and local community for their support.”

News of the sale reports The Boundary will continue to operate as usual, as AVC take possession this week, and the group will continue to employ all venue staff.
