Last week some of the elite of the Australian wine industry hosted a big occasion for Australia’s oldest posse of publicans, celebrating another milestone for 15 Club, at the home of Penfolds.
Treasury Wines CEO Tim Ford was ably assisted by Penfolds MD Tom King, GM Michael Jackson and national liaison manager Jim Grant to welcome for lunch the legendary 15 Club and friends, to mark the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Club, and its 583rd luncheon.
15 Club members were joined by industry names Peter Harris, Leon Colosimo, Alistair Flower and John Whelan at the stunning Magill Estate in Adelaide.
Club chairman Max Hitchins performed his customary introduction of the members and visitors, regaling tales of their history, hotels and happenings.
During the lunch Ford welcomed the group, and provided insights to the wine industry around the world.
“It was quite amazing to see this group of hoteliers and families, who have devoted in excess of a combined 1,000 years of service to the hotel industry,” remarked Hitchins.
