Public House Group is celebrating the results of its third annual Ladies Charity Luncheon, which this year was in support of Sydney-based women’s mentoring program, SISTER2sister.
The invitation-only event on Friday (23 March) was fronted by Today host Georgie Gardner, with Kate Waterhouse and designer Rebecca Vallance, and MC’d by radio and TV host Ben Fordham.
The event sought to drive awareness and raise much-needed funds to empower young women, working with SISTER2sister.
Research shows one in three women have experienced violence from someone they know, and one in four children are exposed to domestic violence in Australia.
And tragically, 68 per cent of women that enter the SISTER2sister program report having previously attempted suicide or made plans to end their life.
A Q&A between Ben Fordham and Georgie Gardner discussed the timeliness and necessity for deepening our understanding of the issues for young women.
“I’ve always been a big believer that you need to have a purpose in life, and you need to have a purpose that’s bigger than yourself,” said Gardner. “I think we can all play a role in mentoring.”
Jessica Brown, CEO and founder of SISTER2sister, expressed her gratitude for the women getting behind the cause and wanting to help make a difference, and the $68,000 raised at the luncheon.
“The money raised from this amazing event has a powerful impact on our program, with our mentoring and education programs delivering measurable outcomes across a range of key indicators, from mental health to education and safety.”
The event brings Public House Group’s (PHG) charity-raising tally to more than half a million dollars in the past twelve months. The 2017 Charity Luncheon at Bistro Moncur Woollahra raised over $140,000, donated to The Royal Hospital for Women, Newborn Care Centre.
This year’s Ladies Luncheon saw PHG donate The Buena’s Bistro Moncur to the event, as well as contributing to major prizes, auctioned off by Damien Cooley to raise funds.
The major items were:
- a luxurious three-night getaway at Nanuku Island Fiji in in a Beach Front Spa Villa (valued at $8,000)
- a two-night escape at Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley in a luxurious Heritage Villa with a private pool, meals, wine and onsite nature activities included (valued over $3,000)
- a Pizza & Poker evening for 12 people inside the exclusive Bougainvillea Room at The Buena, including a luxurious private bar, as well as a Simon Johnson Caviar Bar to be enjoyed at the guest’s next event (valued over $6,000)
