PUB SCHOOL: MAKING DREAMS REALITY

Aiming to help create the next generation of successful publicans, industry stalwart Charlie Fenton is heading up new boutique training outfit Pub School.

Pub School is offering a 3-day course, providing attendees insight, practical real-world skills, and accreditation through its association with William Angliss.

Suitable to new or future publicans, it aims to help determine “if the pub-game is for you”.

The course has been developed and is delivered by Australian pub doyen Charlie Fenton, who has owned and operated dozens of pubs across Australia, regional and metro, over more than forty years. His methodology transforms ailing pubs into successful businesses and community hubs.

The course curriculum is as follows:

Day 1: complete Licensee course, and complete bar induction.

Day 2: complete Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) course.

Day 3: presentations from industry leaders on cellar induction, accounting and legal, the AHA, TAB and Keno, pub culture – including management strategy and identifying opportunities, and ‘where to start’ and ‘next steps’.

Tapping the fact that a sizeable percentage of Aussies have ‘always wanted to own their own pub’, Pub School asks “Want to run a pub, but don’t know where to start?”.

Fenton is eager to share his experience with would-be publicans who don’t know where to begin. The initiative has met with a positive response by others recognising the need for such a starting point.

“I’ve been thinking about doing this for a very long time,” he says.

“There are two sides to the bar, and after 45 years in the industry I would like to share my experience and knowledge with future publicans.”

The inaugural Pub School will take place at the Imperial Hotel, Paddington, 10-12 October.

Enquiries should contact Charlie Fenton.
