AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN WA REVEAL EXCELLENCE

The grand ballroom at Perth’s Crown Casino came to life Monday night for the 2016 AHA-Aon Hospitality Awards for Excellence, recognising hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants and tourism venues across Western Australia.

Forty-two acknowledgements for Excellence were awarded to venues, operators and staff, including two for ALH venues, Peel Alehouse in Halls Head and the Greenwood Hotel in Greenwood.

Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the passion seen through the winners list was evidence that the future is bright for the western state.

“The commitment that the owners, managers and staff have to WA’s hospitality industry, and their venues, shone through tonight,” said Woods.

“WA’s hospitality venues provide world class food, beverages, service and atmosphere to locals and visitors from interstate and overseas.

“WA’s hotels, bars and dining venues are playing an ever-increasing role in the state’s economy, and it’s important to recognise the hard work of the people who make it all happen.”

Winner: State Buildings

The three interconnected heritage buildings known as the State Buildings sit on the corner of St Georges Tce and Barrack St in the centre of Perth.

Over their 140-year history, they’ve been used as public offices, a police court and cellblock, Treasury, survey department, GPO, immigration offices, office of the Premier and Cabinet, lands department and titles building – but had been empty since the government vacated the buildings nearly two decades ago.

The newly revitalised State Buildings now offer a carefully curated mix of hospitality and retail offerings, as well as COMO The Treasury hotel.
