ANZ has created BladePay to address issues in hospitality in integrated mobile payment systems, in an increasingly tech-focused consumer market.
This month, ANZ announced the pending launch of BladePay, ahead of its debut release into hotels and restaurants in March.
The product reportedly stems from industry feedback that managing payments is one of the “biggest pain points for business owners” coupled with the bank’s insights that identified opportunity through customisation.
“In hospitality we found that there was a gap in the Australian market for a fully integrated solution that could provide order and payment capabilities on the one device that was highly mobile,” explained an ANZ spokesperson.
“We needed an ergonomic, single-handed solution, that was capable of running content developed by our vendor partners.”
Created in collaboration with tech innovation firm ThumbzUp, the handheld android-based payment device is designed to integrate with third party applications.
ANZ is partnering in the new product with POS vendors, which are developing customised applications integrating their system with the highly customisable BladePay. The POS systems so far include NCR, RedCat, H&L, SureFire, Abacus and Shout for Good, with more in negotiation.
The custom applications could include features such as: order and pay at table, bill splitting, tipping options, receipts supplied by email or SMS, and staff clock-on functionality.
“Through our POS vendor partnerships we feel we will solve many challenges, including logistics and taking orders, through to receiving payment, which ultimately will make staff more efficient, and improve customer experience.”
To offer BladePay, businesses need to be an ANZ merchant, and use one of the participating POS systems.
