Energised by the recent high-profile purchase of the Royal Oak in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, veteran hotelier Patrick Ryan has listed Top150 performer the Banksia Hotel, in Sydney’s south.
The big Hotel occupies a prominent 1,037sqm corner on the arterial Princes Highway in Banksia, adjacent to the railway station.
An as-new fit-out incorporates a public bar, bistro and expansive dining areas, gaming room with 30 EGMs (entitlements) and 21 renovated pub-style accommodation rooms, with substantial off-street parking plus direct access to an adjoining car park.
The pub does big trade in f&b, atop its high gaming ranking, achieving #161 for the June 2026 quarter, rising to #122 in July.

Equipped with extended trading until 4am, the business generates just over $10 million in annual revenues.
Ryan acquired the Banksia in early 2018, just months after divesting his iconic Republic Hotel in the Sydney CBD.

He spoke at the time of plans to “grow the community focus” and in eight years has tripled the non-gaming revenue.
The Ryan family now count 11 venues, with the addition last week of the mighty Royal Oak Hotel in Double Bay, bought from the Malouf family for circa $100 million.
Looking to dive into the new asset and optimise his time, Ryan opted to offer up the large-format operation in the south.
“It’s a good pub – busy and very community-minded,” says Ryan.
“I go there every day and it takes a lot of my attention.
“It’s a shame to be leaving, but the Royal is now my focus. I’m trading up to a bigger asset and shifting attention back near home in Double Bay.”
Located around 11 kilometres south of the CBD, the Banksia benefits from its proximity to Sydney Airport and the established Rockdale commercial centre, and the surrounding catchment is set to benefit from residential intensification and urban renewal throughout Banksia and Arncliffe.
The freehold going concern of the Banksia Hotel is being sold via Expressions of Interest, closing Thursday, 22 October, through HTL Property’s Andrew Jolliffe, Dan Dragicevich and Sam Handy. No price guidance was provided.
“An incoming purchaser has the benefit of acquiring a well-presented trading platform, with identifiable opportunities to further optimise the business via a number of initiatives; including potential improvements to the gaming room configuration and amenity,” suggests Dragicevich.
Jolliffe adds that the hotel counts a “compelling combination of substantial underlying revenue, quality presentation and strategic metropolitan positioning”.
