WORKER HIT ATTEMPTING TO STOP DRUNK DRIVER

Queensland police are investigating an incident outside the Arcadia Village Hotel where a worker was struck by a vehicle, while attempting to stop the intoxicated driver from driving.

The incident unfolded around 10pm on Thursday night, with an employee hit and injured outside the 134-year-old pub on Magnetic Island.

The staffer believed the man driving the car was drunk, and it’s understood he was attempting to prevent him leaving in the car.

He was reportedly launched into the air and knocked unconscious, which was seen by other staff members.

Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene and treated the injured man, before he was transported by rescue helicopter to Townsville University Hospital.

He was said to be in a stable condition, but emergency workers suspected spinal injuries.

However, another staff member at the pub today confirmed their colleague is out of hospital and recovering.

Queensland Police continue their investigations, with a spokesperson confirming they had a man in custody who was “assisting … with investigations”.
