SOLOTEL TAKES ON THE WORLD

Solotel and the Kings Cross Hotel are hosting a takeover by another local nightlife institution and lost Sydney icon, World Bar, on a hot night in November.

Over the course of 18 years on Bayswater Road World Bar hosted thousands of DJs and bands, becoming one of Sydney’s most infamous music venues – until its closure in late 2018 in the wake of the lockout downturn.

“It’s been a while since we threw a shindig, we think it’s time,” says Steve Ward, owner of the previously much-loved establishment.

“We always had a great relationship with the characters at the Kings Cross Hotel so we’re looking forward to working with them to bring World Bar back to life.”

On Saturday, 18 November, almost five years to the day since it closed, Kings Cross Hotel welcomes back the Bar for a one-night-only party.

Tickets for are available now for ‘World Bar – One More Time’ featuring a plethora of live music and DJs. The plan is to emulate much of what made World Bar special in the similar building, from the busy stairwells to the floor-to-floor discovery and disco balls and even the famous teapot cocktails.

The party will span four levels, each offering “something interesting” and paying tribute to the Wham, Cakes and Mum nights of the old days.

While the full line-up is yet to be announced, there are said to be more than 20 artists and producers involved.

Kings Cross Hotel is part of the portfolio of family-owned hospitality operator Solotel, which keeps 26 venues in and around Sydney.

The group recently announced the appointment of its first ever Food & Beverage Director, Joshua Hillary, who is tasked with leading a sharp new focus on service, food, and drinks. The World Bar event is an example of the group’s ongoing commitment to creating big experiences.

“Like so many Sydneysiders, I spent much of my youth at World Bar,” says Solotel CEO Elliot Solomon.

“It’s an institution that had a big impact on a generation of music lovers and partygoers and so bringing it to Kings Cross Hotel and sharing it with a new, younger audience too is really special.”
