A new service allowing pub patrons to order food and drinks from their table heralds the next trend in convenience, while leveraging advantages for venues.
The web-based technology comes from OrderUp!, founded by John Saadie, which has begun deploying across Australia.
As an online platform, the system requires no infrastructure or hardware from the venue beyond an internet connection, and can be accessed by any mobile device, making it easy for customers. No apps, downloads or specialty software are required.
Customers order from the menu items – food or beverages – with facility for venues to upsell on selections.
The ‘Timed’ menu feature allows different menus to be displayed at selected times, such as drink prices during Happy Hour, or what’s on offer after the kitchen has closed.
OrderUp! can streamline ordering and reduce labour costs, while tracking and storing data centrally, providing for future analysis and marketing. It can also be multilingual.
Pubs in most states have begun using the service, reporting customers much prefer using the online system over having to line up for food or drinks.
The company says a venue can be set up to use OrderUp! for under $1k. A small fee is charged per order, with no fixed-term contracts. Its launch augers well with the increasing venue backlash against aggregator ordering systems’ high fees and demanding terms.
“This is true digital transformation putting the customer experience first, while also benefiting from the increased sales and the ability to collect data and re-market to the customers in the future,” responded a spokesperson for OrderUp!
