Laundy Hotels is vying to build another new western Sydney pub, bringing the fledgling suburb of Jordan Springs its first local watering hole.
The Jordan Springs Tavern would be located on Lakeside Parade, on a 5,026sqm site. The public house would be licensed for 250-pax and include gaming with 25 EGMs, generous outdoor spaces and a kids’ play area.
Although many locals are said to be pleased with the prospect of getting a community hub, the Telegraph reports plans have encountered some backlash from a vocal crowd of local campaigners who see it as a potential catalyst to problems in the precinct with drinking or gambling.
Leading the submission for the Tavern is Laundy Hotels’ ascending frontman and former MP Craig Laundy, backed by David Borger, director of Sydney Business Chamber Western Sydney, and supported by over 570 petitioners, who told Penrith Council their suburb needs a quality licensed venue where the locals can meet and relax.
Arthur Laundy’s group has taken a new tack in recent years, building its first greenfield – Marsden Park Hotel – in 2018, soon followed by its second, The Locker Room at Homebush, the following year.
In March this year the group broke the news of no less than three new sites in the works, with a rebuild of Penrith’s Log Cabin to be joined by two greenfields acquired through LendLease, at Jordon Springs and Calderwood.
Plans for the JST are currently awaiting decision by the State government planning panel.
