HOTEL HEROES HIT $300K FOR CHARITIES ON THE GREENS

Hotelier heroes the Hurley Group and C.Inc have racked up another $300k for charities, clubbing guests on the greens in the name of those less fortunate.

Last Friday saw the sixth annual Mary Potter Golf Day at Grange Golf Club, organised by the Hurleys in support of Ardrossan Community Hospital and the Mary Potter Hospice.

This year the big three brewers all chipped in as major sponsors, Coopers, Lion and CUB all contributing prizes and refreshments on the day, with sponsors for individual holes and teams¹ and an auction of donated prizes.

2017 saw an amazing $110,352 raised, bringing the total from the event over six years to $593,544.

Money from last year’s Mary Potter Golf Day went to upgrading the palliative care facilities at the Keith & District Community Hospital, and group matriarch Jenny Hurley says she has seen the benefits first-hand.

“Thanks to everyone for being involved. I was fortunate to go to the launch of the Palliative Care Suite at the Keith Hospital last week, and the community is extremely grateful.

“To the wonderful staff at the Mary Potter Foundation, in particular Cathy Murphy and Jess Harford, whose attention to detail makes the day run seamlessly – thank you all.”

The Foundation’s day took place the day after dozens of superheroes gathered on the greens of Bonnie Doon, to become the 20th annual Coogee Bay Hotel Charity Golf Day, raising squillions for the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

This year superman Chris Cheung led sponsors and elated guests through 18 holes, door prizes and silent and public auctions², courtesy of a huge array of prizes donated, liberating another $185,000 for the Hospital.

After two decades and $2.5 million raised, Cheung says the success of the joint venture is in its longevity.

“The partnership goes back more than 24 years. We have got some very loyal supporters. They are all superheroes.”

The dedication from C.Inc now enters another stage, with the announcement of a new long-term program with the Sydney Children’s Hospital Fund (SCHF), committed to raising another $500,000 in the next two years for innovative research – such as that which has lifted survival rates in childhood cancer from under ten per cent to over eighty per cent in the past three decades.

“Investment into research is the only way to make significant progress in the treatment and potential cure for chronic and previously terminal diseases.”

SCHF’s patron, Emeritus Professor Les White, says the relationship between them and CBH supported countless families

“I’m very grateful for what Chris and the hotel have done for the hospital, the children and their families. Coogee Bay Hotel is not just in the heart of Coogee, its heart is in the community.”
