One of the oldest pubs on the Gold Coast has been reopened after a $3 million modern makeover.
Established in 1885, the Coomera Lodge Hotel is a an historic part of Upper Coomera, and now fully re-open to guests following works that began last year.
The new design has made the most of the natural surroundings, incorporating natural stone and concrete, exposed brick, lush greenery and warm timbers to create a new 150-person Bistro, Sports Bar for up to 60 people, gaming room, and three outdoor spaces, each with both weatherproofed and open air areas, catering for up to 448 guests.
One of the outdoor areas, dubbed The Perch, was named in honour of resident cockatoos Sammy and Biscuit.
Families will be welcome, offered a brand-new kids’ play area said to be the biggest in the vicinity – right next to the bistro and outdoor dining space.
The bistro will champion quality and affordability, ranging a modern take on Queensland classics there will be pub favourites, burgers and a large grill offering using a woodfired smoker, plus plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
A weekly line-up of entertainment includes trivia Tuesdays (7-9pm) and live music from local artists Friday to Sunday.
Coomera Lodge Hotel has been a favourite watering hotel for travellers and locals, and beyond the return of warm customer service, venue manager Shannon O’Donnell-Slattery says the overhaul has not harmed the pub’s historic character.
“With the original charm of the venue, the renovation has brought the pub into the current day while acknowledging its heritage. The new-look pub will be a destination for family lunches, Sunday sips and celebrations.”
Australian Venue Co (AVC) has been investing heavily in revitalising the Queensland pub landscape.
Coomera Lodge joins a growing list of Sunshine State renovations, including the Crown Hotel in Lutwyche, Bribie Island Hotel, Boomerang Hotel in Mackay, Kings Beach Hotel in Caloundra, Beenleigh Tavern in Logan, and the Wallaby Hotel in Mudgeeraba.
