Coopers is releasing a distinctly Australian IPA, with a little help from live, loud and local legend, Aussie rocker James Reyne.
Australia’s largest independent family-owned brewery launches Coopers Australian IPA as a limited-edition release, in kegs and cans.
As IPAs continue to grow in popularity around the country and a flood of overseas styles hit the market, Coopers’ brewing team spent months honing a unique hops blend in pursuit of a distinctly Australian take on the style.
“We saw demand for a great tasting IPA with a distinct local touch,” says managing director and chief brewer, Dr Tim Cooper.
“We’re very mindful about when to bring out a new beer and an enormous amount of time goes into getting it right.
“We’ve come up with a great tasting Australian IPA that will suit any occasion.”
Veteran singer-songwriter James Reyne was one of the first artists to sign on for Coopers Live, Loud and Local series, started last year to support pubs and musicians recover from the COVID-19 shutdowns.
He will be performing at a series of trade events being held across the country in April, and fronting the IPA launch, which has meant featuring in a campaign shot at Broken Hill’s famous Silverton Hotel – the original home of the Mad Max movies.
“Australian beer goes hand in hand with live Australian music,” says Reyne.
“As a long-time fan of Coopers beer I was happy to get on board with the Australian IPA, and it tastes great.”
Tasting notes describe a full-flavoured beer with full mouthfeel, using a blend of Australian exotic hops with citrus notes of mandarin and orange and pine-passionfruit characteristics, enjoying Coopers traditional form of ale brewing and natural conditioning.
The local hops are said to be what provides a unique and authentic taste that differentiates the Australian IPA from the similar characteristics of American IPAs.
Coopers Australian IPA has an ABV of 6.5 per cent and a bitterness of 40 IBU.
