The Victorian regulator has released its annual report for FY19, outlining key outcomes and achievements including three complex investigations into major gambling licensees.
The Victorian Commission for Gambling & Liquor
Regulation’s (VCGLR) report for
2018-19 was tabled in State Parliament last week, providing details on
major investigations, enforcement outcomes and performance
against priorities from the Commission’s Corporate Plan 2017–20.
During 2018/19 the VCGLR completed investigations into Tabcorp Wagering (Vic), Intralot Gaming Services, and Crown Melbourne Limited. Tabcorp’s case related to its commission rate in a totaliser bet, resulting in a fine of $30k; Intralot was found to have failed to keep monitoring systems active due to network outage; Crown was found breaching conditions relating to junket operators and fined $25k.
The report also includes an overview of the status of the VCGLR’s investigation into links between Crown and China, as at the end of the financial year. The Commission had planned to complete and report findings prior to its ‘Sixth Casino Review’ of the operator in June, but the continuation of document disclosure has delayed completion.
“The outcomes and achievements contained in the Annual Report reflect the complexity of the work we do, the thoroughness in which we undertake our work, and our ongoing progress as a regulator,” offers Catherine Myers, VCGLR CEO.
“The Report demonstrates the action we take when liquor or gambling laws are breached, and where we deem licensee actions could increase the risks of alcohol- and gambling-related harm.”
