TOCKY TERRACE TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL

PHMG has crowned its reinvigoration of Glebe’s landmark Toxteth Hotel, expanding up with launch of a rooftop terrace with spectacular city views.

Mitchell and Harriet Waugh’s group took over The Toxteth in 2018, continuing its legacy as an inner west institution while refining its interiors with a design overhaul. They introduced new menus celebrating seasonal ingredients and a modern drinks selection boasting organic wines, vegan offerings and beers from local breweries.

Affectionately known as the ‘Tocky’ the pub is central to the area’s buzzing social scene, just ten minutes from Sydney’s CBD. The downstairs public bar is dedicated to casual drinks, dining and live sports.

Touting “mateship, excellence and a dynamic approach” at its core, Public House Management Group (PHMG) has taken the Tocky “to the next level” with a more sophisticated experience that includes the city skyline and a glimpse of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The contemporary design features micro cement bars and plush booths with terrazzo tiles, textured renders and brass accents, to the tune of a green and white palette, backdropped by panoramic windows and beneath a retractable all-weather roof.

The dining menu has been suitably elevated to fresh heights, with an emphasis on sharing plates, while the cocktail menu delivers trusted classics alongside cheeky newcomers such as the Limoncello Mojito, or a carafe of Skyline Spritz – a fizzy, fruity number inspired by the new rooftop bar.

There is also the exclusive rooftop bottomless brunch ($85pp), which serves up an indulgent selection of steak frites, blue swimmer crab gnocchi, colourful salads and sides, washed down with free-pouring Mimosas, Hardys Riddle Sparkling Brut, 4 Pines Pacific Ale and the brunch stalwart, the Bloody Mary.

Enjoying capacity of 250-pax, the rooftop has been designed for a range of flexible floor plans, to host functions and events, catering to everything from smaller celebrations to large-scale parties or corporate events.

Bookings are already being taken and said to be filling fast for festive get-togethers across Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

PHMG operates a select portfolio of venues around Sydney, also including Paddington’s Royal Hotel, The Marrickville Ritz and Minskys Hotel in Cremorne, and takes pride in giving back to the community by way of charitable activities and the support of local schools and sports teams.

Last week PHMG unveiled its new Hurstville venue, Humphrey’s Hotel.

Group head office is within the Tocky, on Level 1 of 345 Glebe Point Road, and PHMG COO Regan Shepherd assured PubTIC the new rooftop is “mainly for the pub” but does tie into their expansion efforts.

“Our goal with the new Tocky Terrace was to create a unique rooftop gastro-pub experience within the inner west,” explains Mitchell Waugh.

“We are delighted with its modern aesthetic and lively atmosphere, which brings a new dimension and young community to the Toxteth Hotel.”
