SLAVES HIGHLIGHT DEATH OF PUBS AND LIVE MUSIC

Ongoing campaign Long Live The Local has released a hard-hitting video ad to highlight the plight of the great British pub – closing for good at the rate of three per day.

Long Live The Local (LLTL) aims to highlight the social damage that comes when pubs close. It was launched mid-2018, with the backing of Britain’s Beer Alliance and beer brand Carling.

It puts a lot of the blame for the high rate of closures on tax pressures faced by pubs, particularly Beer Duty.

LLTL’s latest message features UK punk band Slaves playing their hard-rocking track Bugs, highlighting the important role pubs play in sustaining live music.

The campaign mirrors the pressures on live music faced in Sydney due to the continuation of late trading restrictions.

“Pubs have long been the home of live music,” says LLTL program director, David Cunningham.

“They are a breeding ground for talent – past, present and future, a place where bands meet their first fans. However, with three pubs a day closing their doors for good, live music is under threat.”
