Despite low or no COVID-19 case numbers being reported in recent weeks authorities are still on the lookout, with a pub in East Ballina fined over $14k for breaches of the Public Health Order and the Liquor Act.
Last Friday NSW Police released details around six infringement notices being issued to the hotel in East Ballina and its long-time licensee.
It is reported that on Sunday 27 September 2020, licensing police from Richmond Police District conducted an inspection at the hotel on Brighton Street. A week later, on 4 October, they returned.
It will be alleged that on both occasions heavily intoxicated customers were continuing to be served alcohol, and were gathering in large groups, in breach of the COVID regulations.
Last week police issued the notices totalling $14,400, being:
- two x $5,000 notices for not comply with noticed direction re S7/8/9 – COVID 19 – corporation
- two x $1,100 notices for licensee permit intoxication, and
- two x $1,100 notices for licensee fail to comply with conditions of licence
Police report further business compliance inspections are planned.
