O’HARAS COME UP ROSES WITH CAMELIA

It’s spring in Rosehill and the precinct has grown a picturesque new pub beside the racecourse – the O’Hara group’s new Camelia Hotel.

The O’Haras have unveiled a new pub in the heart of Sydney’s western suburbs, on a corner of James Ruse Drive, previously the site of a Sizzlers and later a Hooters restaurant.

The new Camelia Hotel is across the road from Rosehill Racecourse, and diagonally opposite Camellia train station and the proposed Camellia town centre redevelopment. Rosehill Racecourse began winding back into action over the weekend, with Golden Eagle race day.

The new pub quietly opened its doors to customers on Monday 11 October, and has now begun concerted promotion on the tuned digs.

Andrew Do has worked for the O’Hara family for eight years, formerly licensee at Blacktown’s Central Hotel and the Fairfield Hotel. Do will be running the Camelia as part-owner, which will be his first with skin in the game.

He reports the feedback to date on a fresh venue has been “amazing”.

“Everyone seems really excited to have a new pub in the Rosehill area and they have been impressed with the fit-out of the hotel,” he says. “The outdoor cabanas have been really popular.”

Design of the Camelia incorporates multiple individual spaces to suit a variety of customers, ranging from the family-friendly Camellia Bistro and casual booth seats in the lounge area, to the outdoor areas, and the state-of-the-art Sports Bar.

Do also notes they are currently looking for local sporting teams and community groups to sponsor, suggesting they “never say no to a good local community cause”.

Dan O’Hara and Andrew Do

The O’Hara family own and operate AHA Award-winning pubs throughout metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW. They put forward an aim to run “great community hotels” and say the Camellia will be no exception.

“Andrew has always gone above and beyond for his team and his customers so we have no doubt he will be great in the role of managing the hotel and all that it has to offer,” said principal, Dan O’Hara.
