NEW DIRECTION FOR GRAND JUNCTION AND BROWNS PLAINS

Australian Venue Co has rolled out another two overhauled local watering holes, bringing the Grand Junction Tavern and Browns Plains Hotel back online after multi-million-dollar investments.

The Grand Junction of Pennington reopened after a $2 million renovation pitching a new destination for locals, serving up quality food, drinks and live sports.

The lid has been lifted on the Bistro and Sports Bar areas to become an expansive open plan drinking and dining space, with new furniture and finishes and a big TV feature wall.

A new menu offers Aussie pub classics, including ‘Loaded Parmis’ with a selection of toppings, alongside south-east Asian feature dishes, such as Sweet & Sour Pork and a Vietnamese-style Noodle Bowl.

The gaming room did not escape attention, decked out with a new interior and furniture.

There are events and specials for every day of the week, led by the daily Happy Hour from 4-6pm, with Monday steak night, Tuesday schnitzel night, pool and trivia on Thursdays, live horse racing on Saturday and poker across Saturdays and Sundays.

AVC held a ‘Welcome Weekend’ at the end of August for locals to the north Adelaide pub, dolling out specials and giveaways across three days.

“The Grand Junction Tavern has always been a favourite amongst the local community and the new look has created a modern dining and drinking destination for our neighbours and visitors to the area,” says Tavern venue manager Thi Tran.

To the north-east, the Browns Plains Hotel in south Brisbane, built 1976, reopened in August after a $1.5 million ‘family-friendly’ renovation.

Executive chef Dylan Kemp oversees the new menu in the transformed bistro, creating Queensland pub classics, with generous, value-packed serving sizes.

And there is an “epic Parmigeddon” section, tempting diners with a 350g hand crumbed chicken schnitzel or parmi, with a choice of seven flavours plus chips and salad. Options include The French, The Outback, The Mexican, The Queenslander, and The Mac & 3 Cheese.

An adjoining outdoor terrace has been reworked for year-round al-fresco drinking and dining, strategically positioned beside the new kids’ play area, and the modernised gaming room boasts updated finishes, new machines and a fresh layout.

Entertainment comes in the form of Browns Plains’ Sports Bar screening every pay-per-view and UFC event ‘live and loud’ as well as Karaoke Thursday nights and free pool on Sundays.

The pub’s launch weekend took place at the start of September, featuring free food tastings, live music, kids’ entertainment, Tradie Club and prizes including a Weber BBQ giveaway. On the Sunday they dished out a Father’s Day breakfast “fit for a king”.

The Browns Plains Hotel continues AVC’s Local Heroes program, supporting Rural Aid by donating $1 from every Parmi sold every Wednesday.

Last month the news broke that venture capital giant KKR will sell its majority stake in AVC to Asia-based investors PAG.
