Merivale has continued the buying spree with purchase of The Whale Inn, in Narooma, furthering its footprint on the New South Wales South Coast.
The Whale Inn is a boutique hotel and restaurant boasting breathtaking views of beaches and Wagonga Inlet, offering 17 individually-appointed rooms and suites, beside a laidback restaurant and bar.
For the past 15 years it has been owned and operated by Matthew Deveson and Jen Houghton-Deveson, and Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes says he is pleased to take the baton and another point of presence in the precinct.
“Matt was a true gentleman; a man of great kindness and dignity who truly loved Narooma and the wonderful people who call it home. It is an honour for us to continue Matt and Jen’s legacy.
“Narooma has become my second home and the backdrop to so many of my happiest memories with my family. I think it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world.”
New of The Whale follows Merivale’s purchase of Narooma’s The Quarterdeck, just a few minutes away, in March. The second acquisition will strengthen the group’s resources in the region, around five hours’ drive south of Sydney.
Merivale take the keys to The Whale Inn this week and while the accommodation will remain open, the restaurant will reportedly close for a quick refresh, reopening in July.
Further plans for development of the property will be announced in due course.
