The Brisbane-based McGuire family has completed another big pub expansion, unveiling its new construction at the Alexandra Hills Hotel.
Alexandra Hills is in Brisbane’s south-east, around 20 kilometres from the CBD. Located on a sprawling site on Route 22 to the coast, the Hotel already housed a dozen motel rooms.
But recognising the market for accommodation and facility choices outside the city, the McGuires have executed a $15-million development, upgrading the existing motels and constructing a new building holding 52 4.5-star hotel rooms, atop new conference and function spaces.
Going well beyond merely upgrading the former pub, the group has taken it to another level to meet demand.
“It’s a whole new building, so better product,” principal Damian McGuire told PubTIC. “There are people that don’t want to be in the city, and that’s growing as parking is a problem in the city.”
This build is the latest in a series by McGuires that saw expansions at the Colmslie Hotel in Morningside and the Calamvale Hotel.
McGuire’s Hotels is a family operation that has been in pubs for over a century, currently holding the keys to 11 hotels in south-east Queensland.
The big 5.3ha site of the Alexandra is the last of the group’s portfolio that lends itself to big redevelopment, but McGuire says they are not out to look at any more just yet.
“Not at this stage … we’ll stay quiet on motels for a bit.”
