MAN CONQUERS KHARTOUM BADASS BURGER

Many have tried to conquer the Khartoum Hotel’s now famous five-kilo Burger Challenge, but none had made it until a very hungry man finished and went back for more.

The Khartoum Hotel in Kitchener, just south of Cessnock, launched its gut-busting Burger Challenge at the end of January. The dietary dilemma has reportedly already found the attentions of burger hounds around the world, via social media.

A bargain at $60.00, the burger comprises: 1 X 500g bun, 2 X 500g meat patties, 6 X slices of bacon, 4 X eggs, 8 X slices of cheese, 20 X onion rings, 1/2 head of lettuce, 3 tomatoes, 3 beetroots and BBQ sauce. It also includes sides of 500g of wedges, 500g of fries, 160g bowl of BBQ sauce, 160g bowl of tomato sauce, 200g bowl of sour cream and sweet chili sauce, and a sprinkling of parsley (not required to be consumed to conquer the challenge).

Patrons are required to give the kitchen 24 hours’ notice to prepare and build the beast, and the prize money ratchets up each time it is not claimed.

Over the weekend James, from Sydney’s Baulkham Hills, was the latest to take his place before the monstrous compilation of calories – and the first to finish within the deadline.

“The burger was gone in under the time, but he also had a double serving of cheesecake – and all in under 30 minutes,” reports the Hotel. “James you are a legend.”

The glutinous record set by James stands at 25 minutes and 37 seconds and he will be the first name etched on the Legends board. His appetite saw him take home $600 in prize money.

To date there have been 55 contenders in the Challenge, but only one winner.

It has drawn attempts by a wide variety of people, “with varying results” ranging from surrender at only 12 minutes in to timed-out 30-minute efforts involving varying degrees of completion. The majority of people are said to “hit the wall” at about the 18 to 20-minute mark.

The Burger Challenge at the Khartoum Hotel remains open to contenders, to be done in 30 minutes. The prize money has reset to $100.00.
