JACK’S BACK, WITH TERZINI

Property giant Lendlease has announced Terzini and Broome’s DTL Entertainment Group was selected to re-launch the revised Sydney institution of Jacksons on George.

Ending its lease to the Gallaghers, Jacksons closed early 2018 and was demolished to make way for new development Sydney Place – a joint venture with China’s Ping An Real Estate and Japan’s Mitsubishi Estate Asia.

Slated for completion in early 2023, the new Jacksons will be a “modern Australian gastro pub and restaurant” spanning three levels, over 1,036sqm. There will be a variety of dining options, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the new George Street Public Plaza and urban laneway businesses.

The design, said to draw inspiration from the rich history of Circular Quay, for a “welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere” in keeping with its surrounds, is by local, award-winning architects Studio Hollenstein.

Sydney Place is also set to feature a 55-storey commercial tower, dubbed Salesforce Tower, at 180 George Street. Currently under construction, scheduled to open in September, the Tower is reportedly already 66 per cent pre-leased.

Sydney Place is itself one of the two key pillars and part of the larger Circular Quay upgrade, estimated at $5 billion. The other corresponding pillar is AMP’s Quay Quarter development, also due to be completed later in 2022.

Lendlease ran a selective EOI process for its new Jacksons, to range food and drinks that are “simple and elegant”, appointing DTL Entertainment Group, led by acclaimed restaurateur Maurice Terzini and publican Michael Broome, backed by entrepreneurs Paul Ford and Steve Bannigan.

“It’s been a tough few years for Sydney’s hospitality industry, but we’re committed and more than ready to turn this around,” offered Terzini.

“It’s time to become a global city again.”

Lendlease’s head of leasing, Simon Van de Velde, says it is another important milestone to engage DTL Entertainment, to recreate a legend.

“Leveraging our global expertise in placemaking, we’re taking this exciting next step for the precinct by re-inventing the iconic Jacksons on George as an around-the-clock destination – bigger and better than ever before.”
