One of the country’s busiest pub groups has revealed plans for a massive redevelopment of its “County Bondi” landmark.
The Cock n Bull – aka the Grand Hotel – could see a medium-rise development in Iris’ trademark style, with retail, accommodation and residential space slated to join the prominent corner pub.
A Development Application to Waverley Council cites a $17m+ project, incorporating two adjacent Victorian terraces and up to seven storeys per a revised height limit of 22 metres.
Iris CEO Sam Arnaout told PubTIC the project is just one of an array on the books, including expansive plans for its recently acquired Mercure Hotel complex, and nearby Crown Hotel (former One World Bar) in Parramatta.
The Bondi pub was purchased from Andrew Lazarus’ Eastern Hotels Group in late 2014, and enjoys an iconic local following that has seen it become known as home to the ‘County’ of Bondi.
The Eastern Suburbs played a prominent role in the cascade of high-profile pub real estate transactions in 2015, and from today Bondi’s eponymous new $500 million pub fund by Lazarus and entrepreneur Stuart King.
