INDUSTRY FAREWELLS ‘LARGER-THAN-LIFE’ ICON PHIL WEBSTER

The hotels industry is today mourning the loss of one of its towering figures – long serving AHA NSW executive Phillip Webster, who has passed away aged just 62.

Webster was the proud publican of Richard’s on the Park in Canley Vale, in Sydney’s West.

He was actively at the forefront of industry policy and politics throughout his career. AHA NSW CEO John Whelan describes his commitment to the Association and trading environment for all NSW hoteliers as “legendary” and meetings were even held at his bedside in the later stages.

AHA NSW President Scott Leach paid tribute to his long-term friend and confident on an extremely difficult day.

“Phil was a true legend, an icon and servant of the industry.

“Larger than life, Phil’s passion for our industry was always a driving force of the AHA for more than 30 years.

“His wit and wisdom was highly regarded by players on all sides of politics, and he was a good friend to many of the most influential people in our industry.”

Webster is survived by his beloved sister and business partner, Vicki.

AHA NSW senior vice-president Lyn Humphreys says Phil was her long-time best mate and mentor, who brought unbridled passion to the three loves in his life, being “his pub, his boats and his AHA”.

“His loss will be felt by so many who have been touched by his generosity, his time for others, his understanding of the industry and his zest for life. A big man who leaves a huge legacy.”
