Further to our recent article on hospitality training and the partnership between TAFE NSW and the University of Newcastle, TAFE is going further to address the critical labour shortages within the hospitality, events and tourism sectors.
Similar to its long-standing partnership with the University of Wollongong, TAFE NSW Hamilton is offering fee-free Advanced Diploma courses in Event Management, Hospitality Management or Travel and Tourism Management to eligible students in its new partnership with the University of Newcastle.
Their aim is to reach Hunter-based school leavers interested in these careers, as well as current and alumni students already in these industries.
The advanced diplomas intend to equip future industry staff with business operations, leadership, and management skills as well as solid, hands-on experience.
Students enrol in their selected TAFE NSW course for the first 18 months, and if interested can transition to the University of Newcastle’s Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events for the following 18 months.
These courses complement TAFE NSW’s earlier responses to the needs of the industry of offering free hospitality-centric short courses to meet demands. Each course was designed to meet the evolving needs of both industries and those seeking education, after consulting industry specialists, tasked with finding innovative solutions for current and future workforce requirements.
Industry Innovation Specialist – Hospitality, Commercial Cookery and Finance for TAFE NSW Jenni Downes says, “It’s an exciting challenge to innovate, and this can only be achieved by collaboration”.
“TAFE NSW is partnering with the University of Newcastle to deliver an integrated pathway program in the Hunter region to meet the critical labour shortages within the travel and tourism, events and hospitality sectors, which in turn will help to create more vibrant communities.”
