FREE HOSPITALITY-CENTRIC SHORT COURSES TO MEET DEMANDS

In further response to the demands of industry, TAFE NSW is offering more courses at no charge, to meet skills challenges for employees in 2022.

TAFE NSW is the largest training provider in the world, counting over 17k staff, nearly 500k annual enrolments, and 140+ teaching and hospitality training venues throughout the state.

With a goal to provide purpose-driven solutions to training in dynamic industries, TNSW is offering micro- skills courses ‘fee-free’ until February 2023.

The courses represent a “new way” for Australian workers to get the skills they need, through the Institute of Applied Technology, with curriculums designed by trusted industry and education experts.

They stem from meetings with industry, by the Industry Innovation Specialists, designed to complement worker experience and fit with schedules.

Some key hospitality-centric courses include:

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence: a non-technical introduction on how machines learn from data. No prior programming or computer science experience required. Learn about real world applications of AI, common terminologies, facts and myths, anomaly detection and computer vision, language processing and knowledge mining and more. Duration: 3 hours, online
  • Introduction to Cloud Computing: demand for Cloud professionals is increasing. This introductory course gives an overview, understanding technologies, deployment models and how to start. No prerequisites. Duration: 3 hours, online
  • Introduction to Cyber Security: this introduction gives an overview, exploring threats along with the broader topic of cyber security. Learn what are vulnerabilities and risks, staying cyber safe, common threats, adversaries and their motivations, and career opportunities. No prerequisites. Duration: 3 hours, online
  • Introduction to Data Analysis: the huge amount of data generated by large-scale enterprises will only add value if properly analysed. Data analytics enables stakeholders to visualise it in sophisticated ways, enabling evidence-based decisions. This course lays foundational knowledge of how data analytics can be applied to practical problems, with a short introduction to fundamentals and gathering, identifying sources, cleaning, analysing and visualising. No prerequisites. Duration: 3 hours, online

Earlier this year TNSW announced a vision to be the leading provider of lifelong learning, requiring it to meet the evolving needs of both industries and those seeking education.

This led to a team of 18 Industry Innovation Specialists who are not constrained by existing frameworks and solutions, and seek feedback from every employee and employer and related entity, and from the next generation of young learners.
