COUNTRY CLUB DALBY SET TO SWING AGAIN

The landmark Country Club Hotel in Dalby has sold to a new consortium of owners from Brisbane and Sydney.

Taking a large corner of Cunningham St and State Route 82, about 200 kilometres west of Brisbane, the two-story pub incorporates the popular Super Cellars, plus Keno and TAB, rear carpark and upper level balcony on two sides.

In 2015 it suffered a major fire that prompted the owners at the time to sell up. It was auctioned mid-2017 by Peter Power, selling for $810k to local business operators and need-to-be publicans, Keith and Anne Beer.

The Beers engineered a top-to-bottom renovation that took 12 months, reopening toward the end of 2018. Everything was upgraded, from the three bars, function space, coffee shop and kitchen to the drive-through bottleshop and manager’s residence. Twenty new machines went into the rejuvenated gaming room.

Toward the end of 2019 the couple were forced to reduce the hours of operation due to personal illness, and the business drew its last breaths when the pandemic closed all pubs in March.

But in the past fortnight a deal has been finalised on the vacant freehold for $2.5 million, the new owners counting former Sydney club manager Jason Reid, who has moved to Dalby with his family to run the show.

The pub is getting another tweak ahead of another reopening, expected in the next month.

“It was a big win for Dalby,” suggests Geoff Percy of Ray White Commercial, who brokered the deal.

“The Country Club was quite a prominent place on the edge of the main street where people could go, and Dalby’s RSL closed down some time ago.

“It’s really a case of right place, right time. The new owners will do a great job.”
