COMISKEY GROUP UNVEILS AMBITIOUS $250M SANDSTONE POINT EXPANSION

The Comiskey Group has revealed plans for a $250 million expansion of its Sandstone Point Hotel and neighbouring Holiday Resort in Queensland’s Moreton Bay, promising to become the state’s next premier tourism hub.

Sandstone Point Hotel and its accommodation resort is a sprawling operation set on seven hectares of waterfront land opposite Bribie Island, with an outdoor entertainment area centred around a stage on the water that can hold 20,000 for major acts.

The landmark expansion will include the area’s first greenfield five-star hotel, with 202 rooms across two ten-storey buildings, each with views of Pumicestone Passage.

Supporting the hotel will be a retail and entertainment precinct, offering a tourism information centre, indoor entertainment such as bowling, and additional dining.

Features of the new holiday destination include an expansive infinity pool, family-friendly pools, adults-only pool with a swim-up bar and live DJs, a gym and wellness centre, and function spaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

A dedicated bus terminal, expanded basement car parking, and upgraded concert facilities will ensure the full-scale destination experience leaves nothing to chance.

Director Rob Comiskey said the expansion was a natural evolution of the property, which the family has owned since 2011.

“We’ve drawn people in with live music, great dining, family-friendly facilities, and the award-winning Sandstone Point Holiday Resort — now Australia’s most popular BIG4 holiday park,” he says.

As demand grew over time, the Comiskey Group realised they needed to expand and elevate their offering, opting to deliver Moreton Bay’s first five-star accommodation.

“It’s about building on what’s already here and making it even more compelling for both locals and tourists,” Comiskey added.

The project aligns with the Queensland Government’s ‘Destination 2045’ key objectives in supporting tourism growth, and will generate almost one thousand jobs and a projected annual visitor spend of $143.3 million.

CEO of Tourism and Events Moreton Bay Luke Edwards said the development is timely given the approaching Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

“The Comiskey Group’s expansion will strengthen our region’s appeal, support jobs, and contribute to a more vibrant, experience-rich destination for both locals and visitors,” he stated.

CEO of Queensland Tourism Industry Council Natassia Wheeler agreed the development is a vital part of the future of tourism in Queensland and has come at a pivotal time.

“This project is exactly the kind of bold, forward-looking investment we need.”

The Group is currently in talks with multiple global brands in the search for strategic partnerships to strengthen future success and create international appeal.

Expressions of interest are also being sought from eco-tourism experiences, to strengthen eco-tourism in Moreton Bay.

“We’ve always been known for thinking big, but the Sandstone Point development is by far our most ambitious yet,” declares group director Paul Commiskey.
