AVC has triumphantly returned Sydney nightlife icon Cargo to King Street Wharf, following a comprehensive four-month renovation, nearly 24 years since its debut.
The waterfront institution, known for its Wharf-side beer garden and legendary club nights, now boasts a fresh new look across its two expansive levels.
Since opening in 2000, Cargo has been a go-to spot for parties, live music, headline DJs, and its famous annual Halloween Party, as a top-tier Darling Harbour destination for drinking, dining, and dancing.
The Ground Floor Main Room maintains its high-energy nightclub atmosphere with a sleek LED-lit bar and a state-of-the-art DJ booth equipped with advanced AV technology and LED screens. The decor blends sophistication with playfulness, featuring neutral tones and green accents against light timber furniture. Dynamic LED lighting above the central dance floor and an upgraded sound system provide an immersive, 360-degree experience. A vibrant mural by artist Justine McAllister adds a splash of color and fun.
The space can transition from casual daytime dining to a bustling club at night, accommodating up to 500 guests. Cargo is open late Sunday through Thursday and until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, continuing to host headline DJs.
The Beer Garden, offering panoramic views of Darling Harbour, has been rejuvenated with a full awning for year-round al fresco dining, new furniture including high bars with tiled tops and colourful chairs, creating a lively Palm Springs vibe. New pavers, planter boxes, and lush greenery enhance the outdoor dining experience.
Upstairs, the revamped Level 1 exudes exclusivity with an emerald-veined marble bar and plush emerald-hued furnishings. Accommodating up to 400 guests, with its own high-end DJ booth and separate sound system, it can host private events or cater to regular patrons. The VIP area, designed as a secret drinking den for larger groups, features wooden batten panelling and booth seating.
Cargo’s new all-day menu, crafted by executive chef Jason Roberson, includes a variety of casual eats from lunch till late, and sharing boards for groups. There are weekly $25 specials Monday through Friday, including pizzas, tacos, and 1KG wings, all served with a complimentary house drink.
The drinks menu features classic and inventive cocktails alongside Cargo’s signature shots.
Celebrating its re-emergence, throughout VIVID Cargo is hosting fire and light shows shooting flames from the awning, every Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 1am. And the Cargo Candy Shop returns, vending hot dogs, popcorn, candy floss, and more.
