BOTANICA TO CLOSE THIS MONTH

Popular Perth pub the Botanica Bar & Bistro joins the ranks of venues closing, confirming it will cease trade at the end of the month.

Earlier this month news emerged Nick Duncan was closing the doors at Perth’s Broken Hill Hotel, after 16 years involved with its ownership and operation, citing a brutal economic downturn since the mining boom faded.

Built 1962 in Innaloo in Perth’s northern suburbs, the large-format Botanica has been a thriving f&b pub, offering two-dozen beers on tap and many wines by the glass, in a choice of bars, with a large outdoor area and function space.

It was formerly known as the Old Nookenburra Hotel, aka The Nooky, before current owners of the lease took over and rebranded to Botanica in 2008.

Michael Cutler joined the business last year, initiating refreshed food and drinks menus.

Cutler told PubTIC he was unable to comment, except to confirm the pub will close 30 June, and that the Liquor Barn bottleshop will continue to trade.

No further explanation around the circumstances was provided.
