Brisbane entrepreneur and hotel legend Jason Titman, has taken on a challenge to walk the Inca Trek to raise money for the Mater Hospital.
Former operator of successful Queensland venues including the Chalk Hotel, Regatta, Hotel LA, Scarborough and most recently Due East, Titman has also been on the board of the Mater Hospital since around 2006.
Over 13 days in April, Titman and wife Tanya will leave behind their four children under 11 (all born at the Mater) and be part of a party of 20 climbing to 4200 metres on one of the world’s great hikes – the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in South America.
The journey is the ‘Trek for Cancer Peru Adventure’ and each participant has a fundraising target of $7000 to achieve for the benefit of prostate cancer research.
Prostate cancer accounts for up to 30 per cent of cancers diagnosed in Australian men each year.
Fund raised will help Mater scientists better understand the evolution of the condition, which can take 20 to 30 years.
