The next stage of the massive redevelopment of the old Carlton Brewery site is underway, with the vacant freehold sale of The Australian ‘Abercrombie’ Hotel coming to market.
On the corner of Broadway and Abercrombie Street, the heritage hotel has been dormant for a couple of years, but will be revived as part of the Department of Planning’s grand plan, and the spectacular residential project by developers Frasers Property and Seksui House.
Already boasting one of the most striking buildings in modern Sydney, Central Park on Broadway will continue, constructing 15-storey twin towers above The Australian. These will feature 282 hotel rooms, 48 apartments, office and retail space.
The site will become home to 5,000 residents, and is next door to Central railway station and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The former Clare Hotel, within the same sprawling complex, has been refurbished and relaunched as the Old Clare Hotel.
The sale of The Australian is being managed by Ray White Hotels’ director Asia-Pacific, Andrew Jolliffe, who is appropriately buoyant of the hotel’s place in the project.
