STRADBROKE ISLAND BEACH HOTEL EMBARKS ON TRANSFORMATION

Moreton Hospitality’s The Beach Hotel, on Stradbroke Island, is geared to begin its transformative and innovative renovation.

With a final trading date of 29 March, the hotel, known as ‘Straddie Hotel’ on socials, will renew its focus on sustainability, community and exceptional experiences for guests, integrating the facility more closely with the natural beauty of the environment as well as creating a space that can welcome families and host events.

The renovation, set to commence next week, will be guided by KP Architects and built by Aizer Building Solutions, with an expected re-opening date later this year.

Moreton Hospitality CEO Tony Hazell said The Beach Hotel has been a local favourite for years.

“We’re incredibly proud of the foundations this venue has established within the community, and we don’t want to take that away.

“Our aim is simply to enhance these strong foundations, refreshing the space and re-establishing it as the community hub —both for locals and visitors alike.”

To achieve this, the bar, bistro, gaming room and hotel accommodation will all be refreshed, incorporating modern amenities including LED screens throughout the venue.

The ground level deck will receive an operable roofing system, ensuring the space can be used all year round, while the upstairs function space will get an extension to its outdoor deck.

A unique outdoor cinema experience has been designed, offering movie nights under the stars, and a dedicated stage and AV system has been incorporated, to support the local music scene and other events.

Hazell said the venue renovation addresses upgrades to essential services as well as operational efficiency. This includes improvement in accessibility by way of a new courtesy bus service from Dunwich. Along with the new attractions, the bus service is expected to help support sustainable tourism, as the venue will be better able to service visitors to the Island.

It is expected this will lead to the stimulation of other local businesses and strengthening of the local economy.

During the work the hotel’s luxury apartments will remain open, as will the drive through bottleshop, along with the pub’s two other bottleshops, at Dunwich and Point Lookout.

Moreton Hospitality will be relocating staff to other venues where possible, and creating a temporary pop-up bar.

“We’re excited to bring this vision to life and make The Beach Hotel a place that continues to celebrate Stradbroke Island’s unique character for generations to come,” furthered Hazell.

Moreton Hospitality encourages the Stradbroke Island community to support local clubs and other local businesses during the renovation period.
