Police tracked down and arrested a man in a dumpster, accused of an alleged armed robbery at a western Sydney pub in the early hours of Wednesday.
Around 12.40am on 8 May police received reports of an armed robbery at the Kingswood Hotel, on the Great Western Highway. Officers from Nepean Police Area Command were dispatched.
Police were told on the scene that a man had entered the premises and allegedly threatened three employees with a firearm before fleeing with $20k in cash.
An immediate search of the surrounding area prompted officers to stop a rideshare vehicle to speak with the male passenger, but he fled on foot, jumping a number of fences on First Ave.
In the vehicle officers found and seized a prohibited firearm and items of clothing they believed belonged to the man.
The search continued, and the Dog Unit was summoned. After around 40 minutes the sniffer dog helped locate the man in a dumpster at the back of a grocer, on Bringelly Lane.
The man was found to have $20k in cash on him, which police will allege was stolen from the hotel.
The 37-year-old man from Telopea, around 37 kilometres away, was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.
He has been charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, and refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court in July.
NSW Police relay that no injuries have been reported at this time.
