Victorian pubs have reportedly raised over $270k this year for the Good Friday Appeal, through various fundraising activities, including the AHA (Vic) Top Pubs Challenge.
The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) Victoria announced the revival of its Top Pubs Challenge in 2024, in collaboration with the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal (GFA).
The initiative showcases the commitment of Victorian pubs to give back to their communities.
A total of 36 pubs across the state joined forces in support, raising over $72k in the Top Pubs Challenge, which began at the start of the year.
Member pubs were invited to participate in fundraising activities, while vying for individual recognition as one of the most generous pubs in Victoria.
Fundraising initiatives included online pages and collection tins on the bar, raffles and meat trays, trivia nights and events, social clubs, meal combos with proceeds donated, and even staff contributing a percentage of tips.
The campaign ended 31 March, organisers finding pubs across Victoria having “stepped up to the challenge with enthusiasm and creativity”.
Money raised will contribute to supporting the vital services and programs provided by the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Rebecca Cowan, executive director of the Good Friday Appeal, says they were very pleased to welcome the Association and its members into what is a long tradition of fundraising for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“The local pub is often at the heart of its community, and community is at the heart of the Good Friday Appeal.”
AHA Vic GM Kimberley Malcolm offered that the “overwhelming” support by patrons and communities demonstrates the role pubs play in fostering community spirit.
“The Good Friday Appeal brings the community together, just like the pub, so it’s a natural fit for our members to support the appeal.”
Winners of the 2024 Top Pubs Challenge will be recognised at the Association’s Awards for Excellence, scheduled for May.
