Feros Group has been given the green light for a partnership venture that will bring a brand-new pub to the heart of Cronulla.
Chris Feros’ outfit is teaming up with high-profile local developer the Sammut Group. The companies will partner in the freehold and pub operation, representing consolidation of years of history in the region.
“It’s something we’ve been talking about for 15 years, so we’re very excited to actually be merging the two brands,” explains Feros, who’s pub portfolio has made him a doyen of Sydney’s south.
An application was submitted to construct a seven-storey commercial building. Above two basement levels, the street and first level will become Parc Pavilion, for up to 850 patrons. Downstairs will offer a bar, outdoor dining area and takeaway service, and gaming room with a separate bar. Upstairs will be another bar area, bistro and more outdoor dining space and a smokers’ terrace, as well as a second restaurant, with private dining rooms.
The remaining floors will be occupied by commercial tenancies and co-work office spaces.
The site overlooks the popular Monro Park, just two blocks east of Cronulla beach, and opposite the train station, bus depot and taxi rank. Operations will pitch to the many tourists and local commuters who will regularly pass the new structure.
A proposal was approved by the Sydney South Planning Panel late last year, but subsequently passed to Sutherland Shire Local Planning Panel after objections by vested locals.
The panel recently published its decision to also approve the application, citing its alignment with the Cronulla Centre Strategy and its proximity to transport, but subject to conditions including a traffic warden for busy periods and residential noise monitoring.
Amendments to the original application had been made, including the Feros Group committing to a plan of management for any anti-social behaviour, to which NSW Police voiced no objections.
The approval marked the culmination of a three-year process for the families, although final licensing approval is still required.
Feros Group is renowned in the area for its pubs Highfield and Huxley’s at Caringbah, Kirrawee’s The Prince, and the Taren Point Hotel, and Chris has high hopes for the project with his “good friends” at Sammut Group.
“Both families agree it will be a generational asset that will never be sold. We’re hoping it becomes an iconic beachside pub.”
