WYNNERS BAR LOSES $20K OVER BREACHES

The Queensland regulator has punished a bar in south Brisbane for “continued” breaches it says displayed a lack of care for patrons and a disregard for the law.

Last week Ausin International Group P/L (AIG), appeared before Holland Park Magistrates Court in relation to its venue Wynners Karaoke Lounge, in Macgregor.

AIG pleaded guilty to ten charges including: supplying liquor to an intoxicated person and other unacceptable liquor service practices, failing to provide a safe environment and preserve amenity, allowing liquor to be consumed outside of authorised times, and failing to comply with conditions of a licence.

The operators have been fined $20,000. Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) Executive Director Mike Sarquis noted the ongoing nature of the breaches from October 2018 to April 2019, and the defendants’ failing in duty of care for its customers.

“Our investigators inspected the premises multiple times during the investigation and found that Wynners Karaoke Lounge continued to breach the Liquor Act 1992,” offered Sarquis.

“These laws are in place to minimise the risk of alcohol-related harm for members of the public and the community, but it’s disappointing that some choose not to follow the law.

“Licensees have an obligation to adhere to liquor regulations, and it’s their responsibility to ensure the safety of their patrons.”
