TORQUAY PATRON ‘STUNNED’ AND READY TO RETIRE

A hard-working woman from Torquay says she’s recovering from the shock of recently winning $1.2 million on Keno, at Endeavour’s Bay Central Tavern.

A Keno Classic 10 Spot entry, draw 306, drawn Sunday 15 May, was reported as winning a total prize of $1,195,093.20.

A friend of the winner saw it on the local news, and that the ticket was purchased at Bay Central Tavern, in Pialba.

The woman was so nervous about the possibility of the windfall she reportedly held onto the ticket for more than a week before checking it, telling a Keno official the luck had left her “in a daze”.

“I don’t know what I’m doing, mate!” she laughed.

The unnamed woman shares she was already on the lookout for her first home and that it’s an “amazing feeling” to now be able to buy one.

Next step, retirement.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” she says. “I don’t think I’ve really slept.”

Paul Limbrick of Bay Central Tavern says the pub felt as though they had won, seeing a regular reap the benefit.

“There’s nothing more exciting for the team than seeing one of our patrons take home a huge prize,” says Limbrick.

“We’ve been celebrating ever since.”

Last year, across the eastern states, Keno reports players celebrated more than 36.2 million wins, collectively worth more than $590.3 million, creating 13 millionaires and multi-millionaires.
