THE LADY MAKES A NOISY RETURN

Camperdown’s Old Lady is back, under the Public Hospitality Group banner, championing its newfound dedication to live music.

For decades the pub on Parramatta Road at Camperdown was known as the Old Hampshire Hotel, until Paddy Coughlan and co took over in 2016, slapping on some lipstick and reopening as The Lady Hampshire.

It offers an old-school public bar with rare 24-hour licence, TAB, gaming room with nine EGMs, a large and popular beer garden, and 12 undercapitalised accommodation rooms upstairs. In 2018 Coughlan’s Bourke St sold its lease of The Lady to a partnership of industry newcomers.

Sadly, the new operation closed during the pandemic, and did not reopen.

Early 2022 news emerged that Jon Adgemis’ Public Hospitality Group (PHG) had purchased the restapled freehold going concern of The Lady, for around $11 million.

Previously known as Jaga Group, PHG has been amassing a collection of specific city-edge venues in Sydney and Melbourne, as seen in purchases of The Strand of Darlinghurst and Annandale’s Empire Hotel, both from Oscars Group.

The Lady has now reopened seven days a week, offering foodservice specialising in wood-fired pizzas, and a big focus on live music.

To celebrate the return, The Lady is hosting a month-long ‘Month of Madness’ party, kicking off with the massive three-day ‘Lady x Young Henrys’ music festival at the venue, from Friday, 14 to Sunday, 16 April.

“We’re back and charging headfirst into our month of madness with a stacked line-up.”

Kicking off on the Friday, there will be a free show headlined by Fangz, supported by Dedpan and Wicked Envy. The following night will be showing Pacific Avenue, supported by Juno and Darcy Lane, with DJ sets from Mac the Knife and Nitecall.

All weekend they will be serving “$10 Smashed Cheesies” and there will be pop-up entertainment from Thanks Tattoo Sydney and People & Pooch nail salon.

PHG is targeting a new generation of pub-goers, repositioning what it deems suitable city-edge venues as hipster and millennial-friendly offerings, with a focus on hotel accommodation and lifestyle.
