Despite rumours to the contrary, Brisbane legend The Fox Hotel is not in administration and hopes to reopen soon after massive damage during the floods earlier this year.
The Fox was reportedly swamped during the brutal storms in February, and has been undergoing repairs ever since.
“The basement, where our cellar, offices, all storage and mechanical plant were located, was completely destroyed, so the scope of works for repair on that level in particular was extensive,” explains Tim Fitzgerald, CEO of Colonial Leisure Group (CLG).
Recent media reports spoke of a winding up application on “a company associated” with the landmark pub, due to the damage, but it seems this may have been a mistaken connection to another entity, MLV Group Pty Ltd, which also formerly traded as the Terminus Hotel.
Built in 1927, the four-storey Hotel boasts public bars, eight function spaces, gaming room with 10 EGMs, a popular bistro, and legendary rooftop bar overlooking the CBD.
CLG bought a 30-year leasehold on the large-format venue in 2016, with 27 years remaining.
The Group confirmed to PubTIC that MLV is not a stakeholder at The Fox, and it definitely plans continue to revive the South Brisbane rascal.
“We continue to work with the support of the landlord towards reopening the venue,” furthers Fitzgerald.
“It’s been a long process and we hope to get the door reopened again as soon as possible.”
