THE BENDI’S BACK

In March Melbourne’s iconic music venue the Bendigo Hotel, aka ‘The Bendi’, was forced to close after 14 years championing the punk, rock and metal live music scene.

Now, just six months later, it’s back.

The Bendi has found a new caretaker in another local stalwart, The Mill Brewery, which was looking for a new home after its original site was slated for redevelopment.

Locals can rest assured nothing much will change, with gigs lined up as far ahead as January still predominantly metal, rock and punk.

However, The Mill Brewery has made some improvements.

Top priority was an upgrade to the sound system. With the help of audio professionals Pink Noise and TAG, a brand new QSC L-Class Line Array PA and subs have been carefully set up to make the most of the space at any volume.

Next, The Mill Brewery brought in Social State Entertainment booking agent Kit Atkinson, who has extensive local and international experience.

Naturally, the newly outfitted front bar is now focussed on The Mill Brewery beers, but it has aimed to keep the dive bar appeal for the late-night crowds.

The Bendi now features several spaces including a dog-friendly beer garden, lounge, front bar and dining area, partnering with Dingo Ate My Taco for Tex-Mex inspired meals.

The Mill Brewery aims to continue The Bendi’s legacy as an inclusive community hub for live music in Melbourne.
