
League legend Trevor Gillmeister is facing multiple charges, having tussled with police after allegedly assaulting a staff member at the Stock Exchange Hotel.
61-year-old Gillmeister, aka ‘The Axe’, played 22 State of Origin matches for Queensland and took to the field 72 times for the Broncos, as well as playing for Australia in three internationals. In recent years he has been part of Queensland’s Origin coaching team.
On Friday, 14 November, an incident is said to have taken place at Brisbane’s Stock Exchange Hotel, on the corner of Edward and Charlotte St, in the CBD.
“Shortly before midnight, police were stopped by a member of the public in relation to a physical disturbance inside the Charlotte Street venue,” says a police statement.
“Upon arrival officers were advised the man had been evicted after allegedly assaulting a staff member.
“Police attempted to speak with the man and advise he was under arrest for public nuisance, when it will be alleged he pushed officers away.
“It will then be alleged the man became involved in a physical struggle with police before being arrested and transported to a Brisbane City Watchhouse.”
Following the alleged disturbance, The Axe has been charged with assaulting a police officer while being adversely affected in a public place and with police obstruction, and with commit public nuisance at a licensed premises or in the vicinity of licensed premises.
He is scheduled to appear on 2 December in Brisbane Magistrates Court.
The Stock Exchange, affectionately known as the Stockie, has been operated by Raw Group Hospitality since the start of 2021.
