SEGERSTROM GOES EX-BARGO

There’s a changing of the guard in Macarthur as veteran Lloyd Segerstrom hands over the keys to his Hotel Bargo, to exit the game.

Set on an expansive block, with lawns for events and functions, the pub comprises public bar, modern kitchen and open plan bistro, gaming room with 26 machines, and 10 upstairs accommodation rooms.

The re-stapled Hotel was purchased in late 2017 by Lloyd Segerstrom in partnership with former Australian rugby league player Ian Schubert, from Sydney hotelier Peter Calligeros.

But another half-decade on and after 30 years behind the bar, Segerstrom is looking to move onto other interests and listed the Hotel in March, offering a 14+ year lease.

Bargo is part of the rapidly growing Macarthur region and Wollondilly Shire Council growth corridor, around 100 kilometres south-west of Sydney, and home to a mix of residential and rural property.

Located directly opposite Bargo train station, the pub enjoys an exclusive catchment of over 4,300 residents, while the town’s appeal in terms of its proximity to the capital is making it an attractive alternative.

Hotel Bargo is destined to benefit from the population growth and investment in local infrastructure, and marketing literature spoke of the upside potential in its accommodation.

Taking the reins is Andrew Ingram, aiming to modernise the offering with “incremental changes” that will strive to suit the community. PubTIC was unable to get further detail from Ingram prior to publication.

The on-market campaign through JLL’s Greg Jeloudev and Ben McDonald is said to have garnered interest from local operators, new market entrants and experienced hoteliers, similarly attracted to the scarce nature of leasehold interests with comparable scale and accessibility to Sydney.

“Hotel Bargo has all the demographic ingredients to continue to flourish as a hotel business, and we congratulate both vendor and purchaser on a result commensurate to this enviable hotel,” offers Jeloudev.
