SALE POSED FOR KING OF MANILLA

The king of Manilla is on the market as long-serving publican Don McNeill prepares to “pass the baton”.

The Imperial Hotel was built 1900 on a large 1,706sqm lot on the corner of Manilla and Market Streets, at the north end of town.

Manilla is a rural New England town of around 2,500 souls, 453 kilometres north of Sydney, or 45 north of Tamworth.

Beyond its recreational appeals including Warrabah National Park, the region is known for sheep, cattle and dairy, and crops wheat, barley, oats and canola. There are also two major national poultry companies in the area with plans for expansion.

The large-format two-storey brick pub commands a striking presence, complete with second floor iron lacework balustrades and a sheltered off-sidewalk area on two frontages.

Inside offers a traditional public bar, bistro and commercial kitchen, nine accommodation rooms with verandas, a two-bed manager’s flat, and a covered beer garden at the rear.

Included with the property is a former squash court that holds an approved DA for a retail space.

Don and his wife took ownership in 2010, capping his career spent working pubs since the age of 22.

Ready to take a step back, the McNeills have engaged Manenti Quinlan’s Leonard Bongiovanni to market the asset, who suggests strong potential for a suitable owner-operator.

“Being one of the best-presented hotels, with an entry level price tag, the Imperial Hotel is advantageously located to support the region and all it has to offer.”

The freehold going concern of the Imperial Hotel Manilla is for sale by private treaty, asking price $550,000 + SAV.
