Licensing police in jurisdictions around the country have put venues on notice in the lead-up to the Christmas-New Year period, warning that Responsible Service of Alcohol is in their sights.
Regulators in Australian States and Territories will be inspecting licensed venues for RSA compliance across the festive season.
Operators are reminded to ensure staff are vigilant in:
- not serving alcohol to minors or intoxicated patrons, and
- ensuring drunk patrons do not remain in the venue
Security personnel monitoring entrances must ensure intoxicated patrons do not enter the venue.
“Staff and management need to be aware of RSA obligations – especially during the silly season,” offers Melbourne-based compliance specialist Leigh Barrett.
“Please be aware inspectors are certainly reviewing venues in all locations.”
The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) has produced a voluntary poster (below) designed to remind staff about RSA obligations, and techniques of how to refuse service, which venues are encouraged to display back-of-house.
