REDBRICK SALE ON STRONG FOUNDATIONS

The business of the heritage-listed Redbrick Hotel in Brisbane is being sold by Hakfoort Hotel Group amid rapid local development.

The Victorian-era Hotel was originally constructed in 1890 for Thomas Burke, who remained owner and proprietor until 1899. Many owners followed before it was renamed ‘Burke’s Hotel’ in the 1980s in his honour.

At some point in the twentieth century it became known as the Redbrick – ostensibly not due to its staunch ochre exterior but in recognition of the red 10 pound notes, known as ‘bricks’, used by bookies settling bets in the public bar.

In 2017 it was under the banner of the Hakfoort Hotel Group, which undertook substantial works to revitalise the Brisbane landmark, reopening it in September 2018 after a nine-month renovation.

The 680sqm site boasts a reinvigorated bar and restaurant, stylish function rooms on the first floor, and a state-of-the-art gaming lounge with 30 EGMs.

Its popular Bistro & Lounge Dining operation is serviced by a full commercial kitchen and accessible via the main bar. It comprises three interconnecting areas offering a variety of table, booth and bench seating for up to 120 patrons.

TITO and CRT are in place for all but one of the 30 machines in the gaming room. Entry is from the car park and DOSA, and it is serviced by the adjoining main bar.

Woolloongabba is just two kilometres south-east of the Brisbane CBD and a rapidly growing residential and business community. The level of proposed and approved developments currently underway bolsters key local employment generators and facilities, including the Mater Hospital and Gabba sports stadium, with excellent proximity to major transport, pedestrian and cycle networks.

The Redbrick is being marketed by Savills Australia’s Leon Alaban and Christian Tsalikis, who note the upward trajectory of the area.

“Woolloongabba is central to key activity centres of Brisbane, including the CBD, Fortitude Valley and South Brisbane,” says Alaban.

“It has enormous potential for growth and development due to its close physical relationship to services and facilities and its excellent accessibility to major transport nodes. This is clearly acknowledged through State and Local Government planning for the area.”

On offer is a lease term of 20 years, inclusive of options.

The leasehold interest of the Redbrick Hotel is for sale via Offers to Purchase.
