QUIET PUB ROCKS MAJOR BIFFO

CCTV footage has emerged of a serious brawl in an Ulverstone pub, where a minor dispute became an all-hands-on-deck battle that spilled outside and involved most anything not tied down.

The melee is understood to have taken place around 8:45pm on 17 January, at the normally sedate Lighthouse Hotel, Ulverstone, west of the northern Tasmania city of Davenport.

What begins as an argument between two men, the smaller seemingly demanding something, escalates when another man steps into frame and punches him square in the face.

Another patron steps between the fallen and the others and appears to quieten the situation, until the punch victim scrambles to his feet, struggles to the pool table and begins pelting pool balls, at which point all hell breaks loose between the group including the original assailant and what seems to be the rest of the pub.

At least two men are seen to be apparently knocked out cold, amid furniture, glass, pool cues and fists flying both at the bar and out the side door onto Reibey Street.

Hotel staff alerted local police immediately, and Tasmania Police Sergeant Dean Snooks reports they are investigating the footage to identify parties involved. No arrests have yet been made, and no injuries reported.

The pub lamented the altercation, which it says was “out of character” for the establishment, and has subsequently “reviewed our security arrangements”.

Ulverstone Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 131 444 (reference number ESCAD 297-17012020).
